The virtual AI companion category exploded, and the reviews didn’t keep up. Search for any platform and you’ll find pages quoting two-year-old pricing, articles that conclude a different product wins because that’s where the affiliate link points, and “reviews” written by people who clearly never opened an account.
We got tired of it. Readers deserve to know what a platform costs this month, what the free tier actually gives you, and whether the memory holds up past week two — because that’s what decides whether you’ll still be using it in a month.
How we test
Every review starts with a paid subscription. We buy the plans ourselves and use each platform daily for several weeks, running casual chat, long-form roleplay, image and video generation, and voice calls where they exist.
We stress-test memory by referencing details from earlier sessions without prompting. We build characters from scratch and revisit them later to check nothing locks permanently. We track how fast credit allowances empty under realistic use, because the headline price is rarely the real cost. Then we cancel everything and measure how hard each site makes it.
Pricing is checked and dated. If a number here is wrong, tell us and we’ll fix it.
How we make money
Affiliate commissions. If you subscribe to a platform after clicking one of our links, we earn a percentage at no extra cost to you.
That arrangement doesn’t buy a good review. No platform can pay for a ranking, a verdict, or placement on a comparison page — and we’ve declined to cover sites whose content we weren’t comfortable sending readers to.
